The Myakka City Fire
Control District was established in 1986 by a special act of the Manatee County
Board of County Commissioners as a Manatee County Dependant Fire District. The Fire District is located east of County
Road 675 and extends easterly to the Desoto and Hardee County lines. We respond to over 500 hundred emergency
calls annually covering an area of 230 square miles. The fire district is a blend of agriculture
and wildland urban interface communities, which are surrounded by public and
private preserves.
The Fire District operates two staffed fire stations; one
located on Wauchula Road in the village of Myakka and the second station on
State Road 70 located within the communities of Verna Bethany, Verna and
Panther Ridge.
In addition to providing
fire protection services, the fire district has entered into a cooperative
agreement with Manatee EMS to provide Advance Life Support Medical Services
from one of the district’s fire engines.
This program has proven to be a very successful in reducing response
times of ALS care to serious ill or injured patients.
The Fire District staffs
and operates Class A engines at each of its stations along with water tenders
and brush trucks. Station 1 on Wauchula
also houses the Fire Districts Heavy Rescue and Hazmat Truck. Station 1 is currently staffed 24 hours a
day, seven days a week with station 2 being staffed 12 hours a day, seven days
a week. To complement our fulltime
employees we have a part time staff of 25 firefighters who work hard in
supporting the day to day operation of station 2. All fulltime and part time firefighters are
duel Florida State Certified Firefighter / EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic.
In an effort to reduce the chance of fires and fire related
injuries or death we provide fire safety education to the local elementary school
children as well as to community, civic and church groups.
Sincerely,
Dan Cacchiotti
Fire Chief
